ECRIN Listed as Landmark Infrastructure in ESFRI Roadmap 2016

ECRIN has been listed as an “ESFRI Landmark” on the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) Roadmap 2016, launched on March 10th, 2016 in Amsterdam.

ESFRI identifies Research Infrastructures (RIs) of pan-European interest meeting the long-term needs of Europe’s research communities across scientific areas. ESFRI RIs are facilities, resources or services of a unique nature identified by European research communities to conduct top-level research activities in all fields. The publication of periodically updated ESFRI roadmaps, since 2006, aims to ensure that Europe has excellent RIs, which are accessible to researchers and supportive of scientific advancement and innovation.

The ESFRI Roadmap 2016 distinguishes between 21 “ESFRI Projects”, or projects with a high degree of maturity, and 29 “ESFRI Landmarks”. ESFRI Landmarks are RIs that were implemented or started implementation before 2015 and are now considered “major elements of competitiveness of the European Research Area”. ECRIN, listed on the ESFRI roadmap since 2006, is included among the 29 Landmarks.

The launch of the ESFRI Roadmap was organised under the Dutch presidency by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) in close cooperation with ESFRI, the European Commission, and the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.
